Special thanks to 'Wind and Wire' and Bill Binkelman Spontaneous, the debut CD by pianist Scott Strommen, is a revelation and a true celebration of the unique magic of the piano. The music is a combination of George Winston-like impressionism and flowing melodicism that makes the music glide effortlessly out of the stereo speakers. The recording quality, especially for an independent project, is wonderful. Whether it's the cheerful 'Refelections', the more staid, 'G Flat', or the reflective 'See Fore', Scott displays a nice talent for both melody and composition. The lively 'When I Get Time' is a definite charmer. Even Scott's treatment of Pachabel's Kanon (yes, that again!) gets a slightly different slant, at least to my ears. This is yet another release by an independent artist that proves piano music can always sound fresh, alive, and full of promise. Bravo! B.B.
